Union with Christ

Dear Ones:

Francis Ridley Havergal wrote in the sixth stanza of the hymn “Jesus, Thy Life is Mine“:

“Jesus, my life is Thine,
And evermore shalt be,
Hidden in Thee,
For nothing can untwine,
Thy life from mine.”

Let us today, by faith, lay hold of the wonderful truth of our inseparable union with Christ. (Colossians 1:27; Ephesians 2:5-6) The Apostle Paul said, “For me to live IS Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21)  Paul lived in the reality of his union with Christ. Continue reading

A Morning Act of Faith

Dear Ones:

In Handley Moule‘s “A Morning Act of Faith and Devotion,” he begins by writing:

Handley Moule

“I believe on the Son of God, therefore, I am in Him,
having redemption through His blood, and life by His Spirit.”

Moule begins his day by taking a stand of faith.  He has understood that this is the principle by which he must live if he is to be in the position to receive all that he needs from Christ.

“He is in me and all fullness is in Him,
To Him I belong by creation, purchase, conquest, and self-surrender:
To me He belongs for all my hourly need.”

Faith in the fact of Christ’s existence and the belief that He is truly what He has declared Himself to be is the beginning point, the foundation upon Continue reading

Irreproachable

Dear Ones:

A most beautiful word that is rarely used in our vocabulary is the word “unblameable.” (Colossians 1:22) The reason it is rarely used is simple; there are very few who even come close to having lives of which this is true.  In the kingdom of God and in heaven this word is very significant as it describes the host of those who belong to Christ.  Robert Murray M’Cheyne put it this way in “When This Passing World Is Done“: Continue reading

Put Your Armor On

Dear Ones:

WE ARE WHAT WE CHOOSE TO BE.

In Charles Wesley‘s great hymn, “Soldiers of Christ Arise,” we read:

pastedgraphic-2016-04-8-17-49.png“Soldiers of Christ, arise,
And put your armor on,
Strong in the strength which God supplies,
Through His eternal Son;
Strong in the Lord of Hosts,
And in His mighty power,
Who in the strength of Jesus trusts,
Is more than conqueror.”

What happens if the soldier does NOT arise, and put his armor on?  What happens if the soldier does not trust  the “strength which God supplies”?  He will be trampled upon.  He will Continue reading

Sovereignty of God continued

(Read Part I)

Dear Ones:

I will try and give a definition of the sovereignty of God.

God, The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, existing before all of creation or the beginning of time, is all powerful, all knowing, always purposeful, and always working all things towards His designed objective: the revelation of His glory, and our blessing.  Within these parameters, He is almighty, all wise, and all loving, to do as He wills, in His time and in His way. It is by His mercy, and through the provision of His grace, that He has brought our Continue reading

Fill My Cup

Dear Ones:

The life to which we are called is one from heaven, in Christ, by the Spirit.  It does not have its origin, or essence, in anything of this earth.  It was Hudson Taylor, founder of the China Inland Mission, who said, “Any fruit born while not abiding in Christ, is fruit of the flesh, and is nothing.” The Apostle Paul declares: “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.” (Galatians 6:15) Paul writes that the great issue in Continue reading

A River Like None Other

Dear Ones:

The Apostle John wrote in the book of Revelation: “And He showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.” (Revelation 22:1)

In his gospel John also wrote: “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and DRINK.  He who BELIEVES in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow RIVERS of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive…” (John 7:37-39) Continue reading

The Keys of the Kingdom

Dear Ones:

One of the most extraordinary statements in the Bible is in Matthew 16:19, when Christ was addressing Peter:  “…And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” Here is an ordinary fisherman whom Christ has chosen to be his disciple, and to whom, He is entrusting the “keys of the kingdom of heaven.”  The first question that comes to mind Continue reading

“I Will There Talk With Thee”

Dear Ones:

In the book of the Song of Solomon (5:2,6), we have the picture of the bridegroom/shepherd, arriving home, and seeking His bride.  He stands at the door and speaks. She recognizes His voice, and as she puts it, “…I sleep, my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh.”  It is at this point, that, even though the bridegroom says, “Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled…,” that the bride responds sluggishly, Continue reading
